ROGERS HIRES NEW 98.1 CHFI PROGRAM DIRECTOR

TORONTO (December 14, 2011) – Rogers Broadcasting is very pleased to announce that Kath Thompson has been selected as the new Program Director for 98.1 CHFI in Toronto. Kath will succeed Julie Adam, Rogers National PD who for the past eight years has also been the CHFI PD. As PD Julie has successfully led CHFI to its current position as the #1 AC station in Canada.

Julie will now devote all her efforts to her role as National VP Programming for all of Rogers’ 55 radio stations.

On bringing Kath Thompson on board as CHFI Program Director Julie said “Kath is a fantastic programmer and I am thrilled that she is joining Rogers Radio, and 98.1 CHFI. Kath will be a great fit with the CHFI team. On a personal note, I would like to thank the incredible staff at CHFI who work so hard, every single day, on the air and behind the scenes to ensure that CHFI maintains its #1 status in Canada.”

Kath Thompson brings to her new job at CHFI more than 30 years radio experience. Kath has worked on-air and behind the scenes in several capacities. In the past 8 years Kath has assumed several management positions including Music Director, Assistant Program Director and most recently she helped launch CHUP-FM in Calgary, and then served as the station’s first Program Director.

Upon being selected as the new CHFI PD, Kath responded by saying, “This is the dream job of a lifetime and I am really looking forward to working with Rogers National PD Julie Adam and the rest of the amazing CHFI team in my new and exciting role”.

Kath will officially assume her CHFI PD duties, March 1, 2012.

(Toronto – Tuesday, November 29, 2011) Expanding its leading roster of reporters and experts, 680News today announced that veteran traffic reporter Rob Valentine is joining the station’s Traffic Centre Team, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 7. Valentine will be on the air weekdays from 6 a.m. to 12 noon ET, joining seasoned traffic experts Darryl Dahmer and Russ Holden.

With more traffic reports than any other station in the city, the 680News team provides commuter updates every hour on the :1s at :01, :11, :21, :31, :41 and :51.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Rob’s knowledge and experience join our award-winning traffic team,” said John Hinnen, Vice-President and General Manager of 680News. “Each day, 680News strives to get commuters to their destinations in a timely manner, and Rob will certainly play a big role in bringing Torontonians all the information they need to get where they’re going.”

With nearly 25 years of broadcasting experience, Valentine began his career in 1987 at 96.7 CHYR in Leamington, Ont. Over the last two decades, he has reported from a variety of stations in the Greater Toronto Area, including AM 640, where he first began co-hosting and traffic reporting, 104.5 CHUM FM and 1050 CHUM. Most recently, Valentine was on air at NEWSTALK 1010 and 99.9 Virgin Radio, where he spent nearly 17 years as an airborne traffic reporter. Born and raised in Toronto, Valentine built his knowledge of the city’s streets while making deliveries for the family business of bakeries in the Bloor-Ossington and Finch-Weston areas.
